What is DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide)?

Greetings! Ever wondered about DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide)?

Here’s the science behind it: DMSO is a solvent, which means it can dissolve a wide range of substances, including both polar and nonpolar compounds. This unique ability makes it quite versatile. But what really sets DMSO apart is its remarkable characteristic of easily penetrating the skin, leading to its use in certain medical and pharmaceutical applications.

While DMSO's skin-penetrating property is notable, its use in healthcare is specifically limited to the treatment of a bladder condition known as interstitial cystitis. This is based on the approvals from health authorities focusing on safe and effective treatments.

In our store, we're thrilled to share knowledge about DMSO's potential. However, we adhere to strict guidelines for responsible and informed usage. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional for its use in any medical treatment to ensure safety and compliance with health regulations.

Plastic vs Glass

Glass vs BPA-Free Plastic: Storing Your DMSO Safely

Hello there! At our store, we offer DMSO in both glass and BPA-free plastic bottles, and you might wonder, which one should I choose? Both have their benefits, and we’re here to help you make an informed decision!

BPA-Free Plastic Bottles:

  • Lightweight and Durable: Our BPA-free plastic bottles are great for on-the-go use. They’re less fragile than glass, making them a practical choice if you're traveling or need to carry them around.
  • Safety without BPA: By using BPA-free plastic, we eliminate concerns associated with BPA, ensuring a safer container for your DMSO.
  • Cost-Effective: Plastic bottles are often more affordable, offering a budget-friendly option without compromising on safety.

Glass Bottles:

  • Chemical Inertness: Glass is chemically inert with DMSO. This means there’s no risk of the bottle degrading and contaminating the contents, keeping your DMSO pure.
  • Long-Term Storage: Glass is ideal for long-term storage of DMSO. It doesn't interact with the solvent, maintaining the integrity of the DMSO over time.
  • Eco-Friendly Option: Glass is recyclable and can be reused, making it an environmentally friendly choice.

Making the Right Choice:

Consider Usage: If you’re frequently on the move or need a more resilient container, BPA-free plastic is a great choice. For long-term storage at home, glass might be the way to go.

Think About Storage Duration: For shorter periods, BPA-free plastic works well. Glass is preferable for longer storage to ensure the purity and effectiveness of the DMSO.

Personal Preferences Matter: Your choice may also depend on personal preferences regarding environmental impact, durability, and handling.

In summary, both BPA-free plastic and glass bottles have their unique benefits for storing DMSO. Your choice depends on your specific needs and circumstances. Rest assured, we provide both options to cater to your preferences while ensuring the safety and quality of our DMSO products.

Product Care & Storage

Storage Tips:

Storage: Store your DMSO in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This helps preserve its quality. No you do not need an amber bottle if you are storing your DMSO this way

Temperature: DMSO has a unique freezing point at around 18.5°C (65°F). If stored at lower temperatures, it might crystallize or solidify.

Handling Frozen DMSO: Don’t worry if your DMSO freezes! It’s a normal property and doesn’t affect its quality. Simply thaw it at room temperature or in a warm water bath. Ensure the container is sealed tightly to prevent contamination.

Shelf Life: Properly stored DMSO can last for several years. Glass containers are preferable for maintaining its quality over time.

Eco-Friendliness: Consider using glass for an environmentally friendly option, as it's recyclable and can be reused.

What To Do If DMSO is Frozen

No Heat Source: Avoid using direct heat sources like microwaves or stoves to thaw frozen DMSO, as this can degrade its quality.

Gentle Thawing: Allow the DMSO to thaw gradually at room temperature, or place the container in a warm water bath.

Shake Well After Thawing: Once thawed, shake the container gently to ensure uniformity before use.
