Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for a deeper understanding of DMSO? Our comprehensive guide explains how DMSO works, how to dilute it properly, and how to store and handle it safely.
About DMSO
What is DMSO? (Dimethyl Sulfoxide)
Greetings! Ever wondered about DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide)?
DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) is an organic sulfur compound and powerful solvent known for its ability to dissolve both polar and non-polar substances. Because of this unique property, it has been widely studied and used in laboratory, industrial, and certain medical settings.
One of the characteristics that makes DMSO especially notable is its ability to penetrate the skin and carry some small molecules with it. This property has led to significant scientific interest and research over the years.
In the United States, DMSO is currently approved for a specific medical use: the treatment of interstitial cystitis, a bladder condition. Outside of this approved use, individuals should always consult a qualified healthcare professional before considering DMSO for medical purposes.

Do you offer pre-diluted DMSO liquids (such as 20% or 50%)?
We currently offer our liquid DMSO in a non-diluted (99.995% pure) form. This provides you with the highest level of purity and gives you the flexibility to dilute the solution yourself using distilled water to meet your specific needs.
We generally recommend diluting only the amount you plan to use at the time of application rather than storing large amounts of pre-mixed solution.
If you'd like to better understand how dilution works and why many users prefer to mix smaller amounts as needed, you can learn more in our guide:

If you prefer a ready-to-use option for convenience, we also offer 70% DMSO formulations in our roll-ons and gels, available with either aloe vera or distilled water. These provide consistent application and are thoughtfully formulated for ease of use.
What is DMSO Patch Testing?
So, What is Patch Testing?
Patch testing is a method used to determine how the application reacts to a product. It's a smart way to test a small area first. Before applying product to larger areas. This helps to identify any adverse reactions.
How to Patch Test:
- Select a Small Area: Choose a discreet spot.
- Apply a Tiny Amount: Use a small quantity of the product.
- Wait and Observe: Leave it on for 24 hours unless you notice irritation sooner.
-
Proceed if All’s Good: If there’s no reaction, feel confident to use the product as intended!
*if in contact with skin: Some experience itching and tingling sensation, this is normal. If there’s any redness or swelling, wash the area immediately and discontinue use.
Remember, patch testing is a helpful step in testing new applications.

Plastic vs Glass
Glass vs BPA-Free Plastic: Storing Your DMSO Safely
Hello there! At our store, we offer DMSO in both glass and BPA-free plastic bottles, and you might wonder, which one should I choose? Both have their benefits, and we’re here to help you make an informed decision!
BPA-Free Plastic Bottles:
- Lightweight and Durable: Our BPA-free plastic bottles are great for on-the-go use. They’re less fragile than glass, making them a practical choice if you're traveling or need to carry them around.
- Safety without BPA: By using BPA-free plastic, we eliminate concerns associated with BPA, ensuring a safer container for your DMSO.
- Cost-Effective: Plastic bottles are often more affordable, offering a budget-friendly option without compromising on safety.
Glass Bottles:
- Chemical Inertness: Glass is chemically inert with DMSO. This means there’s no risk of the bottle degrading and contaminating the contents, keeping your DMSO pure.
- Long-Term Storage: Glass is ideal for long-term storage of DMSO. It doesn't interact with the solvent, maintaining the integrity of the DMSO over time.
- Eco-Friendly Option: Glass is recyclable and can be reused, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
Making the Right Choice:
Consider Usage: If you’re frequently on the move or need a more resilient container, BPA-free plastic is a great choice. For long-term storage at home, glass might be the way to go.
Think About Storage Duration: For shorter periods, BPA-free plastic works well. Glass is preferable for longer storage to ensure the purity and effectiveness of the DMSO.
Personal Preferences Matter: Your choice may also depend on personal preferences regarding environmental impact, durability, and handling.
In summary, both BPA-free plastic and glass bottles have their unique benefits for storing DMSO. Your choice depends on your specific needs and circumstances. Rest assured, we provide both options to cater to your preferences while ensuring the safety and quality of our DMSO products.

Product Care and Storage
Storage Tips:
Storage: Store your DMSO in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Proper storage conditions are more important than container color for maintaining product quality.
Temperature: DMSO has a unique freezing point at around 18.5°C (65°F). If stored at lower temperatures, it might crystallize or solidify.
Handling Frozen DMSO: Don’t worry if your DMSO freezes! It’s a normal property and doesn’t affect its quality. Simply thaw it at room temperature or in a warm water bath. Ensure the container is sealed tightly to prevent contamination. [See our Comprehensive Guide for more]
Shelf Life: DMSO does not expire in the traditional sense. When stored properly, it can remain stable for several years. Storage conditions play an important role in maintaining consistency and quality over time. Our DMSO products are produced regularly to support fresh inventory for customers.
Eco-Friendliness: Consider using glass for an environmentally friendly option, as it's recyclable and can be reused.
What To Do If DMSO is Frozen
No Heat Source: Avoid using direct heat sources like microwaves or stoves to thaw frozen DMSO, as this can degrade its quality.
Gentle Thawing: Allow the DMSO to thaw gradually at room temperature, or place the container in a warm water bath.
Shake Well After Thawing: Once thawed, shake the container gently to ensure uniformity before use.
